Our Beginning:

Founded by Goldstream Valley community members in 1979, the club initially met in the original Ivory Jacks building. Lion Jack O’Brien, a founding member of the club, donated an acre of land to develop a park.  Spearheaded by club founder Celesley “Sarge” Wilson, the club began the construction of the park and the Ken Kunkel Community Center (KKCC). On August 17, 1996, ground was broken and the playground and park construction began.  The community center opened its doors in 2002.  In 2005, clearing and leveling began for the soccer and softball fields.  Many of the resources to develop the project were donated by Goldstream Valley families, businesses, and generous Fairbanks businesses.

Who is Ken Kunkel?

Long time Fairbanks resident and one of the original charter members of the club, Ken Kunkel, was known for his community service deeds throughout the Goldstream Valley.  In 1994, he gifted a parcel of land to the club, the sale of which helped finance construction of the park and the community center.  Tom Kuryla, another charter member of the club, says of Kunkel: “He was always involved in the community somehow out here in Goldstream.”

Saul’s Field:

On August 29, 2010, the club completed the construction of the ball fields. The field is named after Saul Stutz, a 13 year old Goldstream Valley boy who tragically lost his life to a drunken driver in 2005 on Goldstream Road.  Saul’s father, David Stutz, has been an active contributing member of the club and was a driving force in fashioning the ball field.
